Jane Austen In Hampshire

Alton, Chawton
and Winchester
Your guide will meet you at Alton Railway Station to begin a tour of locations lived in and loved by Jane Austen in Hampshire. This is a very full day; you will visit those places where Jane Austen was happiest and most productive, plus you will see her beautiful memorial at Winchester Cathedral.
- You will visit Chawton Cottage (now Jane Austen’s House Museum) where Jane revised the three manuscripts she had written previously, but which had remained unpublished, wrote three more novels and started one more, which was destined to remain unfinished before illness overtook her. You will be able to visit ‘Cassandra’s Cup’ in the village of Chawton for tea or coffee(included) after the tour here.
- You will have a chance to visit Chawton House Library which once belonged to Jane Austen’s brother, Edward. The library, house and gardens make Chawton House Library a very special and memorable place to visit and enjoy.
- You then go on to Winchester for lunch (not included), after which you will see Jane’s final home and her monument in the Cathedral.
- Tour ends at Winchester Railway Station for your onward/homeward journey.
