Downton Abbey Treasures Tour

What’s included:

  • All your entrance fees
  • Private tour guide
  • Private transport for you and your group
  • Collection from and return to a mainline railway station or your nearby hotel.

Please note – this itinerary does not include Highclere Castle.

This is a tour to be taken at any time of the year and is especially good when the Highclere Estate is closed to the public.

This tour will give you the flavour of Downton Abbey throughout the year.

You will be met at Pangbourne station by your guide, one  of our experts on Downton Abbey and British period dramas, with historical knowledge of the period and social contexts of the series

Grantham House

You will travel first to the magnificent country house used as the Crawley’s London town house, Grantham House (20 minute drive). Filming was in all of the rooms on the first floor – including the elegant Octagon Room. The house was seen at the end of series 4 for Rose’s coming out ball, and for Rose’s wedding reception in series 5.

Yew Tree Farm

Our second stop is Yew Tree Farm, where Lady Edith takes her baby to be fostered. You will see inside the house, as seen on film, explore the farm buildings and gardens, and meet the animals some of which have starred on film! You will also see the spots where in Series 4 we saw Lady Mary, Carson and Lord Grantham speaking about running the estate. You will have a light lunch here (included) of sandwiches, soup or similar.

Downton village

After lunch we travel on to the charming Downton village itself where we see all the external locations used in the village connected to the great house of Downton; the Crawley house, the village hospital, the two Downton pubs, site of the funfair, and the church where many important scenes take place – the weddings, funerals and christenings of the Crawley family and their staff.

There will be ample time to take in the sights of this most lovely, unspoilt village, and of course to take those all-important photographs for keepsakes.

Tour Ends
