Meeting

You will be met by your guide at either your nearby hotel, near, or in Oxford, or Charlbury railway station.

Downton village

You begin your tour in Downton village where you will see all the external locations used in the village connected to the great house of Downton, including the Crawley house, the village hospital, the two Downton pubs, site of the funfair, and the church where many important scenes take place – the weddings, funerals and christenings of the Crawley family and their staff.

You will spend about 45 minutes here, so there will be plenty of time to visit the small library exhibition, and buy a few souvenirs, please note; there are no Downton Abbey themed souvenirs on sale at present at Highclere Castle, so it is recommended you buy souvenirs from the village library, to avoid disappointment later in the day.

You will also have time to take those all important photos of the village sites and sights before leaving for Downton Abbey itself (journey time – 1 hour).

Downton Abbey house and gardens

The afternoon visit will take in Downton Abbey house and gardens ~ Highclere Castle itself.

You will be able to have lunch and/or afternoon refreshments (not included) either before or after your house tour.

Your guide will point out all of the filming spots, via headsets so as not to disturb other visitors to the house and you will have time to enjoy the grounds at your leisure and visit the shop after the formal part of the tour.

You will be able to pay a supplement on the day if you wish to go into the Egyptian exhibition, which is highly recommended, but is not included in this tour.
