Tour starts 10am at Oxford Train Station

Please wait outside the station entrance and look out for our guides. There is an on board toilet on the coach. Please leave the front seats free for your guides. The coach will leave promptly at 10am – if you are delayed please ring us urgently and we will give directions to the first location .

Downton village

We begin our tour in Downton village where we see all the external locations used in the village connected to the great house of Downton, the Crawley house, the village hospital, the Downton pubs, site of the funfair, and the church where many important scenes take place – including the weddings funerals and christenings of the Crawley family and their staff. You will be here for approximately 45 minutes and will have plenty of time to explore this wonderful place and take those all-important photos.

Please note; there are few Downton Abbey themed souvenirs on sale at present at Highclere Castle, so it is recommended you buy souvenirs from the village library, to avoid disappointment later in the day.

After leaving the village, we will run scenes from the series so that you can experience once again on film, the locations that you have just visited.

Highclere Castle – Downton Abbey house and gardens

The journey between the village and Highclere Castle is about an hour, so we will stop for a short comfort break/refreshments on the way to Highclere , after which we go on to visit Highclere Castle itself, aka Downton Abbey house and gardens.

You will be able to purchase lunch at Highclere Castle, alternatively, you can bring your own food and enjoy your picnic lunch in the beautiful Highclere grounds

Guided tours are unfortunately, not allowed inside the castle, but you’ll be able to explore independently the ‘Above Stairs’ area of Downton Abbey with the aid of our specially prepared information sheet.

Your guides will be with the group to answer any questions you may have.

You will have time to explore the Castle grounds, gardens and of course the gift shop for those all important souvenirs.

Egyptian exhibition

You will be able to pay a supplement on the day if you wish to go into the Egyptian exhibition in the cellars and view some of the artefacts from Tutankhamen’s tomb.

Depart

The coach will depart from Highclere Castle at 4:30pm for the return journey to Oxford train station. We should arrive back at Oxford for 5:45pm. Please do not book onward travel until after 6pm, to allow for traffic etc.
